Salix discolor - Native to Michigan
1-0, 6”-12" seedlings
The soft, gray flower buds of pussy willow are popular in floral arrangements. This plant hosts many different species of butterflies and moths. It is also the first flower to bloom in the spring, providing food for native bees as they emerge from their winter nests. Pussy willow is useful for stream and lake bank stabilization, erosion control, and healing over disturbed areas. It produces a deep tap root that can disrupt underground utilities in a landscape setting. Should be cut back every few years to encourage new growth. Attracts birds and other wildlife.
