Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program
The face of the Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program (MAEAP) in our area is Jodi DeHate. Jodi provides assistance to agricultural producers in Crawford, Kalkaska, Missaukee and Wexford counties, enabling them to assess their environmental risks and come up with solutions.
Overall, the MAEAP program is going well, with just under 3700 verifications to date. Jodi helped with adding 28 verifications to that number this past year. Fourteen of those came from Missaukee County!
MAEAP can help a farm with reducing risk to the environment. The program works with various agencies to help farmers, voluntarily achieve the goal of being compliant under Right to Farm Act.
MAEAP Program focuses on forest & wetland owners
The Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program (MAEAP) has added a new tool to help those that have property that isn’t in traditional agriculture. The Forestry, Wetlands, and Habitat tool is a similar tool to the other MAEAP offerings except, of course this focuses on forests, wetland, and other habitats and how they are managed. Jodi (Venema) DeHate can help guide you through this tool.
